Adventure Guide
What Is An Adventure?
Outdoor adventure stands as a fundamental pillar of youth development in the Scouting America programs, profoundly impacting participants' growth and maturation. As young people embark on their journey through scouting, they not only accumulate practical outdoor skills but also cultivate resilience, teamwork, and leadership qualities through hands-on experiences in nature.
By integrating outdoor adventure into its core programs, Scouting America not only prepares youth for practical challenges but also instills values of stewardship, respect for the environment, and a sense of responsibility to the community and country. Through these experiences, scouts not only grow into capable individuals but also emerge as future leaders equipped to tackle the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Planning
A good plan is the foundation for any successful adventure. Not only will you want to plan out the adventure’s activities, menu, etc., but you’ll also want to have a good plan for your adventure in general. Make sure when you leave that people know when you’re leaving, where you’ll be going, and when you plan on returning. This way should something happen, people will recognize when you don’t return on time, and know where to look for you. Also, make sure you contact the location you’ll be staying in ahead of time to ensure you’re aware of any additional rules they have. For example, some campgrounds and state parks do not allow firewood to be brought into the campgrounds, to prevent introducing new species of insects. Find a list of useful resources below.
Training
While you may not need any specific training for most activities, there are some in which you do. If your troop plans on doing aquatic activities, climbing, shooting, or other activities, you may need to be trained by the Boy Scouts first, to ensure the activity is being run safely. Look for a list of learning resources below.
